Local studio helps remaster C&C
Lemon Sky studio will most likely be involved in creating 3D models for the retro hit Command & Conquer.
CLASSIC real-time strategy videogame Command & Conquer is being remastered for the PC by Petroglyph Games and it will be aided by Malaysia’s Lemon Sky studio.
Electronic Arts creative director Jim Vessella announced that Command & Conquer (Tiberian Dawn )and Command & Conquer: Red Alert, and their expansion packs, will be remastered.
“How are we possibly going to remaster these titles while maintaining the authenticity of the original experiences? There is no better way to achieve this than to partner with some of the talented developers who brought these original games to life,” he announced.
He revealed that EA would be working with Petroglyph Games which has many of the former Westwood Studios staff that made the original games, including franchise creator Joe Bostic, lead programmer Steve Tall and audio engineer Mike Legg.
The trio joined Petroglyph Games with several others in 2003 after Westwood Studios closed down.
“In addition to the fantastic team at Petroglyph, we will also be partnering with Lemon Sky studio to help bring back the original games in 4K glory,” says Vessella.
He adds that it is one of the premier art studios around the world, and it specialises in remastering classic RTS (real-time strategy) titles, having worked on games like StarCraft Remastered.
Lemon Sky business development manager Jade Lee told The Star that the studio has a long working history with EA, having helped with many of its projects.
“As Lemon Sky specialises in 3D game art, we will help recreate the visual content in the Command & Conquer titles while keeping the overall style of the original. It could possibly involve concept development and modelling,” she says.
Lemon Sky currently employs around 300 artists with its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur and a branch in Penang.
EA has promised that the games will not feature micro-transactions.
