A popular cruise ship got a massive renovation recently.
THE Norwegian Jewel is back cruising the waters in the region after an extensive refurbishment. Following a two-week dry dock in Singapore, the popular ship recently embarked on a South-East Asia itinerary.
The refurbishment of the Norwegian Jewel has been described as the company’s most extensive enhancement project this year. Enhancements include refreshed venues, updated spaces, premiere entertainment and redesigned staterooms.
Selected Malaysian media members were given an exclusive tour recently when the ship made an overnight stop at Port Klang in Selangor.
Norwegian Cruise Line vice president (sales Asia) Felix Chan said the refurbishment will better cater to the growth of cruise tourism in South-East Asia.
“We see a good potential for cruise tourism in the region. There has been strong growth across all markets, including Malaysia, in the past two to three years,” he said.
Chan added that the millennial market is also showing promising growth. With the refurbishment, the cruise company is hoping to attract younger travellers on board. In a statement, Norwegian Cruise Line president and chief executive officer Andy Stuart said Norwegian Jewel’s complete renovation will provide guests with quality experiences across the fleet.
“Not only are we revealing updated designs and accommodations throughout the ship, but guests will also enjoy new venues and three exciting shows, one of which premieres for the first time on Norwegian Jewel,” he said.
New to the ship are two new Haven Deluxe Owner’s suites. At 111.48sq m, the room features two private jacuzzis and can accommodate up to four guests. All 1,188 staterooms were also upgraded with new televisions and USB outlets, as well as new artwork and furniture.
Nearly all dining, bar and lounge offerings on Norwegian Jewel were updated, and two new venues were opened – The Pit Stop and Bliss Ultra Lounge, replacing the Sky High Bar and FYZZ Cabaret Lounge.
At the heart of the ship is the Atrium which has been revitalised with a look that’s centered around a custom-design chandelier.
Norwegian Jewel will feature two new shows – the 1970s-inspired Rock You Tonight and Australian hit musical Velvet.
The cruise will offer seven to 19-day itineraries. Norwegian Jewel will spend winter this year and spring next year cruising from Sydney, Hong Kong and Singapore, before joining Norwegian Bliss and Norwegian Joy in Alaska for the summer.
