Entrapped by joint pain
K.C. Ong, 52, enjoys playing badminton with his buddies – something he has done for many years since his retirement. During the past year however, he developed joint pain in his right knee after playing badminton. What took only a day to recover began taking longer to the point when he had to forego badminton altogether.
Degenerating joints
Ong’s experience is among 30% of the population aged 45 to 65. What is considered part of ageing is in fact, a joint disease called osteoarthritis (OA). Patients with OA have joints that break down at an express rate compared to the average non-OA patient.
Beyond cartilage damage – an oversimplified overview of this disease – OA is multifactorial and complex and involves genetics, gender-skew, previous joint injury, biochemical and inflammation factors and targets joints in knees, fingers, shoulders and back over time.
While nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (nSAIDs) help relieve joint pain, human and animal studies show they contribute to accelerated joint degeneration. Long-term nSAIDs dependence have also been associated with risks of heart attacks, strokes and bleeding among those with diabetes, gastritis or cardiovascular risks.
Herbal remedy
From the field of herbal research, one that generated considerable interest was a study published in the journal Trial in 2016 led by Professor Robert girandola from the University of Southern California and Dr Shalini Srivastava from Dayalbagh Educational Institute.
It showed that a herbal formulation known as Lanconone was compared to the nSAIDs painkiller ibuprofen. Lanconone could deliver pain relief quickly and effectively as compared to ibuprofen, in two capsules per dose.
This was the first time a proprietary combination of seven Ayurvedic herbs was proven to deliver clinically proven painrelieving and joint recovery results.
Lanconone is a proprietary botanical compound made up of seven authenticated Ayurvedic herbs – Commiphora mukul (Indian bdellium-tree), Boswellia serrata (Indian olibanum), Withania somnifera (Indian ginseng), Oroxylum indicum (Indian trumpet tree), Smilax china (China root), Pluchea lanceolate (Rasna) and Zingiber officinale (ginger).
These are formulated in precise ratios, using only plant parts that exhibit pain-relieving and joint healing properties.
Beyond pain relief benefits, Lanconone also supports joint recovery, demonstrated by patients regaining increased mobility and joint functionality after about three months of treatment. Researchers observed that taking the right dose of Lanconone made a significant difference.
When first starting on Lanconone, a dose of two capsules twice a day is crucial to stabilise pain and inflammation in order to yield positive results. Lanconone complements every other joint formula as its mechanism of action is unique. Lanconone can also serve as an alternative for patients who are allergic to NSAIDs and is vegetarian-friendly.
Joint pain untangling
Back to Ong, he discovered Lanconone online and found it sold in a neighbourhood pharmacy. Although the joint pain did not disappear immediately, he noticed the stiffness in his knee and shoulder lessening. Within three months, he was back playing badminton with his mates.
