AN International Medical University (IMU) final-year dentistry student, Jimmy Lim Teong Sek won the first place at the nationallevel DENTSPLY Sirona University Endodontic Case Contest Asia 2018. As the first prize winner, he will automatically be eligible to participate in the 2019 contest and will present his case at the regional level together with the 2019 Malaysian Endo Contest Winner.

At the DENTSPLY Sirona University Endodontic Case Contest Asia 2018, Lim presented on his case, “Management of Failed Root Canal Treatment in Mandibular First Molar” – a project conducted under the supervision of Dr Abhishek Parolia.

Commenting on this, Jimmy said, “Through my participation in this competition, I was able to push myself to achieve more than I could have imagined. I am very grateful to have won the competition at the national level, and even more so for the experience and life lessons I have accrued.

“The process was stressful but with Dr Abhishek’s guidance and supervision, I managed it well. Overall, it was a great learning experience for me.”

Suguna Rajendran, another dentistry student who is in her eighth semester, was awarded second prize at the 11th Malaysian Endodontic Society-Singapore Endodontic Society (MES-SES) Biennial Joint Conference.

Her poster presentation at the Conference was “Effect of Clinical Audit on the Quality of Record Keeping and Technical Quality of Root Canal Therapy Performed by Dental Undergraduates”, a project also supervised by Dr Abishek.

Commenting on this, Suguna said, “Representing my group and winning second place in this conference was an experience that will always stay close to my heart. It gave me the motivation and confidence to step out of my comfort zone to reach greater heights. This would not have been possible without guidance from Dr Abhishek and support from my group members.”

At IMU, students pursuing dentistry have the option to complete the entire degree in IMU or study the first two and a half years of the degree in IMU and then transfer to one of its five partner universities in Australia, New Zealand, UK, or Canada for completion of the dentistry programme.

These international partnerships mean that the IMU curriculum has been developed to meet these universities’ high international standards.

The intake for this programme is in February of each year. Those interested in enrolling in this dentistry programme can make an online application today.

For those who have just completed their SPM and do not have a pre-university qualification, consider enrolling in the one-year IMU Foundation in Science (FiS), the direct route for entry into any of the university’s degree programmes.

Want to find out more about how our FiS programme can lead you to a degree in Dentistry or any other IMU degree? Come to our FiS Info Day on Dec 16 at the University’s campus in Bukit Jalil from 10am to 4pm.

This is an opportunity for prospective students and parents to visit the campus of a University which has been awarded the Setara 2017 with a rating of six stars (Outstanding) under the Mature University category.
