Hard work yields great success
THREE students from St John’s International School (SJIS) received prestigious awards from Cambridge Assessment International Education to acknowledge their outstanding performance in the June Cambridge examination series.
The Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards programme celebrates the success of learners taking Cambridge examinations in over 40 countries. Cambridge places learners at the centre of its international education programmes and qualifications, which are inspired by the best in educational thinking.
The following students from St John’s International School received Top in Malaysia awards for Foreign Language Malay: > Amelie Koh Zheng Vern > Chan Kun Lam >LeeJiaXun
These top performers maintained their momentum from last year’s IGCSE examinations, where all three scored perfect 100 scores for their oral and written papers.
“Our teachers set us work beyond the expected examination standard and we spent a lot of time on past papers and word drills to build exam confidence,” says Lee.
SJIS chief operating officer and principal Suresh Dass said the awards recognised the talent, dedication and commitment of both learners and staff.
“The delivery of our British Curriculum and Cambridge International programmes by well-qualified and committed faculty members and exceptional effort by a very special group of students are hallmarks of the holistic education agenda of the school,” he adds.
SJIS also makes a significant effort to advance the quality of Malay language learning. “Our national language needs to be emphasised more so that the students are more fluent in it,” says Malay language department head Halimatun Saadiah.
SJIS also issues its own textbooks, which combine the Cambridge syllabus with national school standards to offer a well-rounded curriculum – so advanced, in fact. that most students find sitting for the actual exams easier than their term-time tasks.
The top performing learners received their Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards at a school ceremony on Nov 22 November at the Holiday Villa Subang, from guest of honour, Ministry of Education Malaysia Private Education Division deputy director, Ahmad Lofti Zubir.
The Cambridge programme Malaysia and Brunei country director Ng Kim Huat says, “It is extremely rewarding to congratulate Cambridge learners and teachers at SJIS who have worked so hard to achieve success in Cambridge examinations.
“The results are a reflection of the enormous talent in Malaysia, not only amongst learners but also within the teaching profession. Learners from St John’s have a bright future ahead of them, and I wish them every success in their future.”
