HAVE you ever dreamed of creating your own anime character or better, your very own anime series?

Well, Tariq Mohd Noh believes such dreams are no longer impossible to achieve. In fact, with the sort of work his company Glue Studios is doing, you can be the creator of the next hit anime series in town.

Tariq and his team from Glue Studios will be at the inaugural Star Supa Comic (SSC) event, which takes place at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre in Kuala Lumpur on Dec 29 and 30, to share how all of this is possible.

SSC is set to be a major cosplay weekend to end the year, with a wide array of anime, manga and comics cosplayers taking part. Tariq and his team will not be donning any costumes just yet the at the SSC, but the 38-year-old line producer says that Glue Studios will be unveiling an online platform which encourages the local anime community to churn out local anime projects called Awetaku on Dec 29.

“As more local talents and artists are showcasing their amazing abilities at local events, producing an original anime series or movie is no longer a pipe dream,” says Tariq.

“Awetaku will surely spur anime-related events and recognise local talent. Also, as a platform, it will be a place to provide ideas and inspiration to jumpstart anime projects,” he adds. The two projects Glue Studios plan to unveil are Jin-chan Shorts and Dreamcatcher by Yore Productions.

Tariq says Dreamcatcher is an anime idol project to gauge local talent levels while the Morumotto Jin or Jin-chan character will be featured in short anime-related projects to gauge project viability.

“In the long run, we want to inspire others in creating their own original characters. If given enough exposure, it’ll hopefully lead to the local community cosplaying the characters,” says Tariq.

Glue Studios, established in 2010, focuses mainly on producing and promoting animation works, specifically storytelling content by integrating various creative elements and technologies including AR, VR, 2D and 3D animation via online platforms.

Glue Studios, which consists of six core members, have worked on several animation series over the years, including Rimba Racer, Tales Of The Ages and Kazoops, an original 3D animation series for Netflix.

Star Supa Comic will take place at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre, Kuala Lumpur on Dec 29 and 30. It is organised by i.Star Events (a subsidiary of Star Media Group) with event partner AniManGaki and media partners DimSum, 988 and Suria FM.
