Gear up for a bright future

-

At Quest International University Perak (QIUP), the goal is not to produce graduates, but to produce employees of the future.

A pertinent example is QIUP's new fluid curriculum concept for two of its engineering programmes – the Bachelor of Electronics and Communications Engineering with Honours and Bachelor of Mechatronics Engineering with Honours.

Under this curriculum, students undergo a yearly industrial attachment at major engineering firms. While other universities provide one industry internship in a three-year course, QIUP offers three. This lets students gain precious workplace experience and rise above the competition.

“We do not want to be another degree mill. We want our undergraduates to excel in their studies, but they cannot be a onetrick pony,” says chief operating officer Nicholas Goh.

In the past seven years, QIUP’s finest have notched up many extracurricular achievements.

Computer Science undergraduates Dickson Chin, Wilson Ho, Ivan Fong and Wong Kok made the university proud at the 40th Science Engineering and Design Exhibition organised by Universiti Teknologi Petronas.

Their Intelligent Parking System project won the Open Innovation Challenge Award, Most Innovative Award and Best Poster Award.

Besides academic competitions, QIUP students have achieved outstanding results in several sporting competitions.

Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) student Liew Chan Siong represented Perak in the 2018 Sarawak National Invitational Taekwondo championships in Kuching, Sarawak. In a field of 20 teams, Liew won silver in the Individual Pattern Category.

At the Higher Education Sports Fest 2018, QIUP swimmers won one gold, two silvers and two bronze medals.

QIUP student Chathura Mihiruk was named Player of the Tournament at the Perak Super League 2017 (National Inter-Club Qualifier) cricket tournament. The team finished fourth overall.

QIUP was also proud to host the World Universities Peace Invitational Debate (WUPID 2017) in December 2017.

The competition drew some of the world’s top debate teams. The QIUP debaters finished 16th among 32 teams.

There are five Faculties and one centre at QIUP – the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Science and Technology, Faculty of Business and Management, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Pharmacy and Centre for Research and Innovation, and offers programmes at the foundation, diploma, degree and postgraduate levels.

QIUP’s interim campus is strategically located in Ipoh, away from the distractions of city life and aptly providing a conducive learning environment and lower cost of living.
