Quality postgrad studies

-

UNIVERSITI Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) offers a range of postgraduate degrees, from social sciences, economics, and engineering to medical sciences.

The specialised Master’s and PhD programmes offered by UTAR enable students to follow the dynamics of a changing job market more closely and rapidly by responding to the emergence of new professional fields and evolving competencies within traditional profession.

With the aim of promoting lifelong learning opportunities by being a provider of quality and innovative postgraduate education, UTAR’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FAS) offers a total of three postgraduate programmes, namely Master of Philosophy (Social Science), Master of Psychology (Industrial Organisational Psychology) and Doctor of Philosophy (Social Science).

The programmes provide postgraduate students and graduates with new skills and competencies, allowing them to enter the competitive arena with renewed confidence. A specialised Master’s degree or PhD degree facilitates entry into the job market and adds value to one’s undergraduate degrees.

UTAR’s FAS postgraduate may be completed by coursework or research or a combination of both. This ensures flexibility to suit the needs of diverse individuals and their learning styles.

The first engenders lessons taught by erudite academics working with small classes which guarantee attention is paid to each individual’s growth.

The research mode allows for greater independence though still providing guidance from dedicated mentors. This mode energises the postgraduates to cultivate and hone skills such as independent study, researching ability and deep introspection, thus producing graduates with a depth of knowledge and natural inquisitiveness.

The mixed mode then offers the best of both worlds, providing opportunities to sit in classes as well as the freedom to conduct innovative researches.

The Master of Psychology (Industrial and Organisational Psychology) programme is a mixed mode course which is designed to complement the industry needs.

Apart from research and classes, the students are also given opportunities to get in touch with actual clients in the workplace through practical assignments that provide students with hands-on learning experience.

Students are required to provide services, such as corporate training, job analysis, and human resource management to organisations. It is one of the most important and unique components in UTAR’s Industrial and Organisational Psychology programme – which is to help the industrial organisational psychologists in further developing their analytical skills and to discover how theories can be applied in actual settings.

The Master of Philosophy (Social Science) ensures the students are analytical in thinking, knowledgeable in their respective field of specialisation, and possess the skills and understanding that will enable them to keep abreast of future developments in their fields.

UTAR FAS’s Doctor of Philosophy Social Science aims to prepare candidates with intellectual background and research skills so that their research discoveries and insights are valuable towards the advancement of knowledge and development of new ideas, theories and insights in the area of Arts and Social Science.
