FOR students and parents looking to continue their tertiary education in the US, the questions seem endless. With over 4,000 higher education institutions in the US, it can be overwhelming and time-consuming for international students to find their perfect school, but that is the beauty of the US system.

With thousands of academic programmes, world-class institutions, top-notch research facilities and flexibility, the US offers a wealth of higher education opportunities not found anywhere else.

All students can find that one school which is a “perfect fit”.

According to the Open Doors Data released by the Institute of International Education, during the 2017-2018 school years there were 8,271 Malaysians studying in the US – a decent increase from the 2016-2017 school years with 8,247 Malaysians.

Malaysia is the 21st leading place of origin for students coming to the US. There were 1,094,792 international students in the US for the 2017/2018 academic year – an increase of 1.5% compared to the previous year.

The easiest and most comprehensive way for students to get their questions answered in an unbiased and inclusive setting is to visit an EducationUSA centre hosted by the Malaysian-American Commission on Educational Exchange (Macee).

EducationUSA is a US Department of State network comprising over 425 international student advising centres in more than 178 countries. It promotes US higher education to students worldwide by offering accurate, comprehensive and current information about opportunities to study at accredited post-secondary institutions in the US.

It also provides services to the US higher education community to help institutional leaders meet recruitment and campus internationalisation goals.

Every year, EducationUSA brings US university representatives to South-East Asia to speak with prospective students and parents about studying in the US. This year, it will host its fair in Kuala Lumpur on Feb 24.

It will be hosting more than 35 accredited US institutions at the Connexion Conference and Event Center, The Summit 1 (Level M1), The Vertical, Bangsar South City, from 2.30pm to 6pm.

At the fairs, prospective students and parents will be able to speak directly with representatives. There will also be representatives hosting talks on applying to community college, finding the right university, scholarships through universities, careers in the creative arts, completing a bachelor’s degree in three years and student visa applications,

Attending the fair is the best way to be exposed to a variety of higher education options in the US.

EducationUSA believes students will be better prepared to succeed if they are actively involved in researching, selecting and applying to the schools of their choice. Studying in the US provides international students with an outstanding education as well as self-confidence, friendships, professional contacts, cultural experiences and English proficiency to benefit their careers and daily lives.

The EducationUSA fairs are free and open to the public. Meet the US university representatives to have all your questions answered in one place.
