STUDYING abroad can be intimidating, but it does not mean you should not give it a try.

Dr Tan, as he wishes to be known, shares, “I’m currently a second-year postgraduate student sub-specialising in internal disease and cardiology in Moscow, Russia.

“I graduated from the I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University many years ago and went back to Malaysia to practise my housemanship just like every other graduate from Russia.

“I successfully completed my housemanship and continued work- ing as a medical officer for another four years before returning to Russia for my postgraduate programme.

“Many of my friends and colleagues wondered why I chose to come back to Russia for my specialisation. Only a handful of people believed me when I said Russia is a really good place for tertiary education. Therefore, I would like to share my experience as a foreign student in Russia with everyone.

“Russia is a very interesting place to study in. It is a highly educated country, with over half of its residents holding a university degree. Russia is a multinational country where representatives of diverse countries and cultures can easily adapt to life here.

“Its multinational and ethnic structure illustrates the diversity of all spheres of life. Russian universities are proud of their long experience in the training and acclimatisation of international students.

“Supervisory programmes are arranged for first-year students and there is an established network of student communities and association bodies. Students are eligible for a range of discounts, including for travel on public transport, visiting museums, libraries, theatres, parks and other public facilities.

“Moving halfway across the world for university can feel quite daunting, especially when it’s your first time living on your own. But it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

“Russia features prominently in the QS university rankings, with 95 Russian universities in the QS EECA University Rankings 2018 and 24 in the QS World University Rankings 2018.

“Applying to university in Russia is a lot easier than you might think. I first applied to my university in Moscow via a trustworthy agency known as Medic Ed Consultant Sdn Bhd. With a reliable agent or company, you don’t have to worry as every step from registering with the university to visa application will be handled professionally.

“With the high quality of education and affordable tuition fees, it’s no wonder why many students are opting for Russia as their next destination.”
