Organised by the Royal Thai Embassy of Malaysia, a selection of seven films are offered this year – two up from its inaugural edition in 2017, where there was five.

“We chose a good mix of all genres and we hope to bring more joy to the Malaysian audience with this kind of variety.

“We also included a documentary, 2,215, which won Best Documentary and Best Original Song at the Thailand National Film Association Awards (Suphannahong National Film Awards) this year,” says Nutta Vasantasingh, first secretary of the Royal Thai Embassy.

She adds that another standout is thriller/ drama/fantasy film Homestay, which won Best Supporting Actress, Best Visual Effects and Best Film Editing at the same event.

“Films are the best means to tell stories, to appreciate different ways of life and culture. It is our hope that they will create further understanding between Thailand and Malaysia, and bring us very much closer,” she adds.

Here are the movies featured in the Thai Film Festival:

The Pool

Don’t fall asleep while cleaning a pool, you just might end up in the same predicament that Day is in. He cannot climb out of the pool without help, but there is no one around. His screams go unanswered – but wait, is that something ambling over in the dark?

Bikeman

He is living his mother’s dream of being a banker (or so she thinks), but little does she know that her 25-year-old son has something else up his sleeve. It is hard to keep secrets in a world where his high school crush keeps popping up ...

2,215

This is a documentary based on the true story of Artiwara Kongmalai, a famous Thai rock singer who dedicated himself to a 55-day, 2,215km run to raise funds for hospitals. App War

Two tech startup founders butt heads in both their work and personal lives, especially when they realise that not only do they think alike, but they also create similar apps. With both vying to come out on top, who - or what – will prevail?

Homestay

A spirit is given a reward from heaven and is allowed to “borrow” the body of a young man who has just passed away. Now time is ticking – exactly 100 days left to determine the cause of death.

The Promise

Two friends decide to end their lives together, but only one follows through. Fifteen years later, her ghost then seeks revenge on the one who opted out. Premika

Oh, the horror! This spirit has been awakened from her slumber and she is not happy. She haunts a karaoke booth, and torments those who sing out of tune! We think it might be best to just stick to singing in the shower.
