Cultivation of minds
THE Faculty of Business and Management (FBM) in AIMST University acknowledges it’s no longer “business as usual”.
Globalisation and digitalisation have irreversibly transformed the economy, bringing about disruptions in all aspects of global business and trade. However, one thing remains constant – the need for a quality education that enables individuals to adapt and keep up with continuous change and development.
FBM takes the “cultivating minds” approach in providing students a solid foundation in business and management studies that extends beyond the classroom to personalised coaching and mentoring designed around each student’s learning abilities and interests.
In addition, soft-skills training is provided during graduation year. Delivered by industry experts, these sessions assist in students’ transition to their chosen careers.
Students’ horizons are further expanded by regular exposure to the global landscape, primarily by way of international collaborations and semester exchange (abroad) programmes with several international universities, such as Kanagawa University, Japan and the PSG Institute of Management, India. FBM aims to cultivate its students not only in knowledge, but also skills to put to good use.
As testament, many of its graduates have gone on to secure jobs at multinationals and leading corporations soon after graduation, while some others have become successful entrepreneurs.
BSc Finance and Management, 2017 graduate Shireen Yong Shu Fen is currently working in Maybank. She says, “I had a wonderful learning experience at FBM. The lecturers and mentors were very professional and kind. I gained most in decision-making and problem-solving abilities, which I find very useful in my work today.”
Fellow graduate Kesshigeen Kumar, who is working in Tesco, says, “FBM provided us a platform to develop leadership as well as soft skills to face the real world. Lecturers go above and beyond the call of duty to relate the outside world with our syllabus. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to study.”
BSc Marketing and Management 2017 graduate, entrepreneur Jay Lim Chun Chew, says, “FBM is one big family – that’s how I feel. Our lecturers always looked after us. I could talk to them when I needed assistance. I keep in touch with my lecturers and mentors even today. It has helped me come up with ideas for my business.”
