Shaping lifelong learners

-

IGB International School (IGBIS), an International Baccalaureate (IB) school, is now in its fifth year of operation.

IGBIS is the only school in Malaysia authorised to offer the IB Primary Years Programme for Early Years to Grade 5; the IB Middle Years Programme for Grade 6 to Grade 10; the IB Diploma Programme for Grades 11 and 12; and the IB Career-related Programme, an alternative programme for Grades 11 and 12.

In order to prepare students for living in this fast-changing, increasingly complex and more interdependent global community, and to give real substance to the critical goal of “learning how to learn” and becoming lifelong learners, IGBIS believes that best practice in education achieves the best results. This was one of the reasons for choosing the highly regarded IB programmes for the school.

Educators at IGBIS believe that effective learning engages the whole person; that inquiring, communicating, empathising, reflecting and taking action are

what is expected from the educational journey that involves students from early childhood through to university entrance.

The IB emphasises research skills, critical thinking and analysis, multiple perspectives, learning related to the real world in which the students live.

Students are encouraged to take ownership and responsibility for their learning. They are encouraged to be risk-takers, to confidently seek answers, to interpret knowledge and to take action.

IGBIS offers two career-related study streams for CP students: Accounting and Art & Design.

In doing so, IGBIS has teamed up with two different learning institutions for the career-related study: the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales where students can earn the internationally recognised Certificate in Finance, Accounting and Business; and Savannah College of Art and Design where students enrol in university foundation courses and earn transferable credits on the courses they complete while still at high school.

These career-related studies give students an excellent head start on life beyond high school.

The IGBIS High School Diploma Programme (HSD) is a viable alternative option for those seeking the flexibility in their choices and selections.

Students take the DP courses except the DP core subjects, and have flexibility in the level of courses they take (higher level or standard level). The IGBIS HSD is recognised and accepted by universities worldwide.

IGBIS also offers, through the curriculum, co-curriculum and after-school programmes, a focus on sports, the arts and languages (Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin, Korean, Spanish and French).

As well as earning accreditation from the Council of International Schools, IGBIS is the only school in Malaysia accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

These accreditations are a wonderful achievement for such a young school and shows the world that IGBIS is a school that provides students with the knowledge, skills and abilities to pursue their lives as global citizens; and displays a commitment to high-quality international education.

IGBIS regularly holds Open Days and people are welcome to tour the school at any time by appointment. Call 03-6145 4688 or email enquiries@igbis.edu.my for further information.
