LESS than a year ago, actor Syafiq Kyle found himself at the centre of a media storm when an X-rated video featuring a man resembling him spread like wildfire online.

“The journey so far has made me wiser and I feel calmer when dealing with people now,” the 26-year-old talks about the days that followed after the careerthreatening incident.

Syafiq – who has never confirmed nor denied he was the man in the video – didn’t let the issue get to him. In fact, a few months later, he went on to star in two films – Gol Gincu Vol. 2 and Langsuir.

Syafiq says he feels stronger now and is able to face any adversity that may come his way.

“I’m prepared to be tested in every way, in matters within the acting industry and beyond.”

Two weeks ago, singer Aiman Tino faced a similar predicament when a lewd video featuring an Aiman lookalike made its rounds on the Internet. Aiman, 20, later said he isn’t the man in the controversial clip.

Asked if Syafiq had any words of advice for Aiman, the actor replies: “I don’t really have any advice to give except to just have a good support system. Surround yourself with your family members. That’s the most important thing.”

Syafiq also hopes people won’t be too quick to pass judgement on others.

“I feel we can’t judge other people’s actions. I think it’s important to just look at ourselves and focus on what we are doing,” he adds.

Syafiq was speaking to reporters at the launch of his new Hari Raya fashion line, which combines both modern and traditional elements in its design.

“After releasing my men’s collection last year, there were a lot of requests for Raya clothing for women as well. So, we have a few pieces for women this year,” Syafiq explains about his latest collection.

The actor recently finished filming the hotly-anticipated second season of Nur. The highly controversial and successful drama series, which first aired last year, centres on the relationship between a pious man and a prostitute.

“I feel the script for Nur 2 is even better. I feel the characters have grown. I’m excited to watch the show myself.

“(Writer and director) Abang Ijat makes it a point to move the story forward. He tries to go further. And he tries to include issues that are currently happening or are going viral,” Syafiq says.

Season Two will see the addition of new characters played by Azar Azmi and Eyra Hazali.

Next up, Syafiq, who made his big screen debut last year with horror flick Langsuir, is getting ready to shoot his first action film.

“I’ll be undergoing training for a month and a half. It’s quite a physical role as I’ll be playing a marine. Filming will start after Hari Raya.” Nur2 premieres April 2 at 10pm on TV3.
