Womenswear gets reacquainted with pants, as suits take their turn in the spotlight on runways.
Whether on the runways or red carpet, women are renewing their love affair with the trousered look this year.
Fashion designers are suiting up women again for 2019. all manner of trousered looks have appeared in both the spring/summer and autumn/Winter collections this year. The power suit is a big thing for fashion houses. no matter the incarnation – perfectly tailored and fitted or worn slightly loose – they offer a feel of businesslike empowerment. Jacquemus took the retro route. suits for women came in saturated colours, accompanied with a boxy shoulder and wide lapels. They brought to mind the silhouettes of the 1980s. it was the same for Tommy hilfiger. The capsule collection in collaboration with singer and model Zendaya played on all things funky. naturally, this included some toocool-for-school high-waisted suits.
Loewe’s, on the other hand, were slim-cut and slightly off kilter. The models in suits gave off a more mod attitude, with a lot of eccentricity thrown in for good measure.
For a more casual look, there is always the jumpsuit. salvatore Ferragamo dressed designs with wide belts and oversized bags for an airy, chic feel. Think powerful, yet trendy at the same time.
a worthy mention, is the jumpsuit worn by Kristen stewart for Karl Lagerfeld’s final Chanel runway show. While the actress was not one of the models for the show, she has been a long-time muse of the late designer.
if you simply can’t do away with skirts, then wear it over your pants. Yes, the look is making a comeback with labels like Jil sander and schiaparelli featuring the look in their shows.
Those of two minds on whether to trouser up, can take a cue from alexander McQueen. The label sent out a half-suit-halfdress design on his autumn/Winter 2019 runway.
