Foundation for a better tomorrow

THE Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 (SPV 2030) has 15 guiding principles ranging from continuous prosperity for everyone, being a learning society and an Asian economic axis to upholding sovereignty.

The topmost principle is equality in success, where the aim is to ensure equal opportunities for all and that the end result is savoured by every Malaysian regardless of race, religion or strata.

Continuous prosperity aims to ensure continued growth and development in Malaysia.

This means that the people can look forward to getting better incomes as the years go by and that no group remains stagnant.

Fair growth is a principle which SPV 2030 pivots on as it will be used to ensure that economic growth and development is carried out justly and fairly regardless of income group, ethnic and region.

Distributive economy aims to solve the problem of consolidation of riches and this will assist in development across borders.

Cities will not be a concentration of the rich and rural areas would not be the slums of the very poor.

Inclusiveness is another main guiding principle of SPV 2030.

Development should include everyone in the society, especially the B40, the poorest of the poor, the relatively poor, the minorities, the alienated and the sidelined.

In the past, economic programmes, albeit with good intentions on the blueprint, had missed some of these groups in its delivery.

SPV 2030 also emphasises continuous learning with importance given to a culture that prioritises education.

This is to ensure continued uplifting, upskilling and valueadding to members of society.

The economy of the future, with the new industries in line with the current market developments, technology and digital culture, is also one of the main guiding principles of the vision.

Although the future is the guiding light, there is the practical approach of the economy of needs.

This is to ensure that ambitious policies do not seem out of this world but address the needs and welfare of the people, especially of the hardcore poor.

Accordingly, initiatives under SPV 2030 include the well-being of the people such as housing, healthcare, education, public transport and welfare needs.

And to ensure that SPV 2030 delivers, there is a proper economic ecosystem where the interests of the investors, manufacturers, wholesalers, business owners, consumers, and the government are all harmonised.

This, in turn, will provide a good and strong social fabric with values.

Making Malaysia the axis of the Asian and Asean economy is another main guiding principle of SPV 2030.

The vision also emphasises the need to strengthen government institutions through democracy, with delivery judged by its success.

Integrity and good management will be a core principle of SPV 2030 to curb corruption and leaks of government resources.

There is also the importance of unity as SPV 2030 looks at various ways of doing away with racial prejudice and celebrate diversity to further unite the races.

This is done through the sharing of prosperity as equally as possible between the different ethnic groups and different income groups.

Having all the above as the core guiding principles, SPV 2030, on the whole, upholds the sovereignty of the country not only with everyone getting a share of the economic pie, but also through sustainable development and caring for the environment for future generations.
