Braving a new adventure
WHEN push comes to shove, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) can do more for you than just be paper qualification. “You’ll face a complete shift in mindset,” says SEGI University Graduate School of Business dean Assoc Prof Dr Chong Wei Ying. “One of the biggest advantages of an MBA is increased self-confidence. The skills you learn during your MBA is transferable and can help you in other aspects of life be it your work, home or personal life.”
At SEGI, the MBA programme is open to all. Whether you’re a degree holder or working professional, you can find courses that are the right fit for you as SEGI offers full-time, part-time and online modes. It is important to decide on an MBA course based on your interests and expertise. From finance and marketing to general management courses, SEGI offers you the chance to better yourself.
“If you’re a working adult, you need an institution that understands the flexibility you need when you have to meet work deadlines or travel for business,” says Assoc Prof Chong.
Assoc Prof Chong shares about one of her students who took up an MBA course after being denied a promotion because he lacked the necessary paper qualification, saying, “He is very talented and hardworking, but also extremely busy; flying everywhere for work. He joined our programme online and completed it. However, when he was offered a promotion and raise at the company, he turned it down to join another company that offered him double the compensation. The MBA he earned from SEGI made him a valuable, indispensable professional.”
Don’t judge a course by its cost
When it comes to pursuing your MBA, cost may be an issue, but don’t let it be a deciding factor. Assoc Prof Chong says, “If a MBA programme is available at low tuition rates, it may not be a quality programme. If it’s too expensive, it could be because a big name is tied to it, and there may not be passion involved in the teaching.
“At SEGI, the MBA tuition that is set is reasonable and justified. You will receive quality education for a fair cost,” she says, emphasising that pastoral care is something that is very much present when it comes to facilitating students on their learning journey. She adds that studying isn’t just about teaching and learning. Instead, it’s a journey and they are here to assist them.
“Here, we have lecturers who not only have doctorate qualifications, but are also passionate in helping students,” shares Assoc Prof Chong, who has an open-door policy at her office.
Determination is key
While studying to better yourself is a brilliant idea, you can’t do it without determination and perseverance. “I see a lot of success stories and a lot of failures, too,” shares Assoc Prof Chong, who, even with four children, went back to school when she decided to make a career change.
SEGI University’s doors are open to anyone ready to improve themselves with an MBA. After all, it’s never too late to start a new adventure.
