Explore international school options

-

INTERNATIONAL schools were initially known as education providers for children of expatriates which mirrored the curriculum they would receive in their home country. There were few Malaysian children enrolled in these schools in the early days as permission from the Ministry of Education was required then.

Today, the international school landscape in Malaysia has changed greatly. The quota removal of local student enrolment in international schools has resulted in the immense growth of international schools in the country to meet the demand from local parents.

Parents today have more private education options than ever before. There are over 80 international schools in the Klang Valley alone located in major residential areas which differ from one another in terms of background, curricula, ethos, learning environment and tuition fees.

The types of international schools available today include purpose-built international schools established by mega property developers and education groups; British and British-inspired boarding schools, English-medium private schools and mission schools offering international curricula.

The Private & International School Fairs have connected both Malaysian and expatriate parents with leading international schools in the country since 2012.

Organised by Mint Communications, the fairs are a bi-annual feature in Kuala Lumpur attracting an average of 15,000 visitors each fair.

Successful roadshows have also been held annually in Penang and Johor.

This year, two fairs were held in Johor. The fair also made its debut in Sabah and Sarawak – namely in Kuching and Kota Kinabalu, and Singapore in 2017.

The 14th Private & International School Fair in Kuala Lumpur will be held during the weekend of Nov 2-3, 2019 at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre, Kuala Lumpur. Opening hours are from 11am to 7pm, and admission is free.

According to Nickie Yew, co-founder and director of Mint Communications, “We hope visitors at the upcoming fair in Kuala Lumpur have a great experience speaking to our exhibitors,” she said.

Exhibitors at the upcoming fair include Asia Pacific Schools, HELP International School, King Henry VIII College, Kingsgate International School, Kingsley International School, MAHSA International School, R.E.A.L Schools (International and National), Sayfol International School, St. Joseph’s Institution International School Malaysia, Straits International School, Sunway International School, Taylor’s International School, Tenby Schools and Westlake International School among others.

A number of preschools, learning centres and pre-university providers will also be exhibiting at the fair.
