On the up and up
Suria and 988 see spike in listenership.
SURIA and 988 listeners have increased in number in the last six months.
According to Gfk’s Radio Audience Measurement (RAM) survey, Chineselanguage radio station 988 saw its listenership grow from 1.94 million to 1.99 million, the highest it has ever recorded.
988 boasts the highest Time Spent Listening (TSL) among Chinese-language stations, in which listeners tuned in for an average of seven hours and 11 minutes per week.
Three segments drew in the most listeners – 988 Drama, Stand By You, hosted by Chrystina Ng and
Remember The Moments, hosted by Sean Lee.
988 is now the No.1
Chinese station in Selangor and Perak, securing
715,000 and 340,000 weekly listeners respectively. It also achieved the biggest growth in the Northern region, with an 18% increase in listenership.
“988’s growth in the latest GFK RAM survey solidifies our direction on producing quality content.
“With our new app, our content is not only better but reaches further. You can listen as well as watch 988’s content anytime, anywhere, with our catch up and live video features,” said
Woo Bee Ay, head of 988.
Meanwhile, Suria also strengthened its brand after achieving an increase in listenership from 2.27 million to 2.64 million.
Gfk’s RAM survey showed that Suria now ranks as the fourth top Malaylanguage radio station in the country.
It achieved the highest TSL among Malay-language stations for the age group of 20 to 24 years old, who listen up to six hours and 51 minutes per week.
This latest achievement means Suria has now seen a spike in listenership for three consecutive surveys, according to Suria senior manager, DJ Lin.
“Suria has worked tirelessly to attract and retain our listeners by broadcasting a large selection of songs that include a mix of mid-90s and latest hits, actively producing numerous on-air and digital platform content, as well as organising a host of engaging on-ground activities.
“We believe in continuously providing quality content so as to attract more people to tune in and follow Suria.”
Suria’s digital platforms include a website, suria.my, and a Youtube channel, Suriatv, which has garnered over a million views.
Suria and 988 are subsidiaries of Star Media Group.
