DIY spa you can do at home

-

THERE are plenty of excellent and affordable spa products in the market but here are some you can create at home.

Coconut bubble bath

For a soft and deliciously fragrant combo, mix a cup of unscented shampoo or liquid soap with a handful of fresh coconut shavings topped with half a cup of coconut milk and a tablespoon of honey.

Mix gently with a spoon and add to running water.

Banana food mask

Bananas are used in traditional therapies because the vitamin C and antioxidants in the fruit and the peel are said to bring a glow to the skin.

Mash the soft banana with one egg white. Apply to your face and leave for 20 minutes. Wash off with warm water. Afterwards, rub your face with the peel.

Oats and honey mask

This traditional mask acts as a gentle but deep cleanser and is a good moisturiser too.

Mix one cup of chamomile tea with four tablespoons of oatmeal and two teaspoons honey. Stir and apply to your face. Leave for 20 minutes and wash off with warm water.

Tip: Cold teabags soothe sore eyes, so make the tea with two teabags and use the refrigerated teabags while you apply the mask.

Avocado hair treatment

When your hair is dull, avocado oil will give your locks a boost.

Mash one ripe avocado with two tablespoons of honey. Massage into your hair. Wrap in a warm towel and leave for half an hour. Wash off with a mild shampoo.

Salty skin scrub

If you have rough soles, elbows or hand calluses, this mix will help remove some of the hard skin.

Mix one cup natural sea salt with half a cup of baby oil. Leave overnight so that the salt crystals are reduced to a rough sludge.
