Escape to Australia this weekend

- By CHESTER CHIN

MALAYSIANS will be able to “escape” to Australia this weekend with a live programme of virtual travel experiences from Tourism Australia.

The Live From Aus event, happening today and tomorrow (May 17), will feature exclusive travel programming that are hosted by well-known Australian personalities.

Some notable items on the schedule include a workout class in Byron Bay, close crocodile encounters with Outback Wrangler presenter Matt Wright and a dinner party with celebrity chef Matt Moran.

Tourism Australia managing director Phillipa Harrison said the broadcast, an extension of the With Love From Aus campaign, can help travellers dream and plan for their future holidays.

“The With Love From Aus campaign is about providing a platform for our industry operators, tourism products and experiences to continue to connect with travel lovers and give them the ideas and inspiration to explore our incredible country when borders reopen, and people can travel again,” she said.

Harrison added that although demand for travel is on hold, “it’s important that we don’t go quiet as a destination”.

“The brands that continue to engage with their audiences in a crisis are the ones that tend to recover the fastest.

“While people can’t travel right now, they can certainly dream and plan for those holidays to come,” she said.

In 2018, Malaysia was Australia’s seventh largest inbound market for visitor arrivals, 10th largest market for total visitor spend and 11th for visitor nights.

The Live from Aus programme schedule is available on www.australia.com and facebook.com/seeaustralia/events.
