Idea for a higher education institution with Bahasa Melayu as the medium of instruction mooted at Council of Rulers

1970

UKM was first established at a temporary campus in Jalan Pantai Baru, Kuala Lumpur. It comprised of three faculties: Science, Arts and Islamic Studies.

1973

UKM holds its first convocation ceremony

1977

UKM moves to present main campus in Bangi

1982

Faculty of Education established

1992

> Faculty of Health

Sciences established > The Institute of Language, Literature and Malay Culture expands into the Institute of Malay World and Civilisation

1995

Institute of Malaysian and International Studies established

1997

UKM’S Cheras Health campus established 2004

Faculty of Economics and Business formed through merging Faculty of Economics and Management with Faculty of Business Management
