Award-winning spas in Malaysia

- Melody L. Goh

YOU don’t have to go to exotic destinations or faraway countries to enjoy a good wellness holiday as Malaysia has numerous award-winning spas and spa resorts.

Some of these places have even been winning awards at international levels for several years now. This includes The Orchard Health & Wellness Resort in Melaka, the Iridium Spa at St Regis Langkawi (Kedah) and Mandara Spa at Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur.

At the recent World Luxury Spa Awards, two hotel spas were honoured the best in Asia and Asean in separate categories; another two were named the best in Malaysia.

The winners were Rock Spa at Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast in Johor (Asia’s Best New Luxury Hotel Spa), Away Spa at W Kuala Lumpur (South-east Asia’s Best Luxury Urban Escape), The Spa at Shangri-la’s Rasa Ria Resort in Sabah (Best Luxury Resort Spa in Malaysia) and Lexspa at Grand Lexis Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan (Best Luxury Beach Resort Spa in Malaysia).

The World Luxury Spa Awards was established in 2010, and gives international recognition to deserving spa businesses and outlets all over the world, as voted for by guests, travellers and other industry players. More than 250,000 international travellers vote each year over a period of four weeks to select the winners.

Also under the same organisation are other “luxury awards” in the hotel and restaurant categories.

As for the 7th World Spa Awards 2021, voting will begin on May 19. There are three categories you can vote in: Best Hotel Spa, Best Resort Spa and Best Wellness Retreat.

Some of this year’s nominees include Balance Wellness by Anantara (Anantara Desaru Coast & Villas), Chenot Spa (One & Only Desaru Coast), Heavenly Spa at The Westin Langkawi and Then Majestic Spa at The Majestic KL.

The winners will be announced at a special gala, scheduled to be held in Dubai on Oct 20 this year. –
