HAPPY Malaysia Day, Starchild readers!
Malaysia Day is celebrated on Sept 16 every year to commemorate the establishment of the Malaysian federation in 1963. This is when Malaya, North Borneo (Sabah), Sarawak and Singapore came together to form Malaysia.
Our country is a multi-cultural nation where Malays, Indians, Chinese and people of various other ethnicities live together in peace and harmony.
The theme for both National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations this year follows the concept of Keluarga Malaysia Teguh Bersama (Malaysian Family Stays Strong Together).
Recently, we asked Starchild readers to tell us what they like about Malaysia. Here’s what they had to say on the topic, We Love Malaysia.
“What I like best about Malaysia are the beautiful beaches. There are so many beaches with white sand and clear water across Malaysia. Cenang Beach in Langkawi and Long Beach in Perhentian Island are my favourite spots. Please do not litter and keep our beach clean so we can continue to enjoy these beautiful beaches of our beloved country,” writes Adlea Amirul Afiq, six.
“Malaysia has many beautiful jungles, special plants and exotic animals. It’s a beautiful country,” writes Asher Wang Qi Chuen, four.
Older sibling Bethany Wang Qi Syuen, seven, loves Malaysia for its delicious food inspired by different races.
“From sticky rice dumplings, thosai, curry puff and soft ‘bao’, my country is truly a food paradise.”
Nine-year-old Lim Sheng Hao loves Malaysia because of the food and friendly people.
“I love nasi lemak as it is very tasty. I have Chinese, Indian and Malay friends. Although we are from different races, we live in the same country peacefully. Out of everything in Malaysia, I love its landmarks, especially Petronas Twin Towers, which are the tallest twin towers in the world. I am very proud to be Malaysian. Happy Malaysia Day!”
“I am a Malaysian and I love Malaysia. There is peace in my country – no war. Malaysia is a multi-racial country and we live in harmony. I am lucky that I can eat different kinds of food including Chinese, Malay and Indian food. I love yummy nasi lemak, roti canai, roti jala and curry. It’s a blessing to be a Malaysian,” writes Chuah Seng Koon, six.
Jayden Tan Li Sheng, nine, writes: “I am proud of my peaceful country. Malaysia is fascinating with its cultural diversity. It has beautiful beaches like Redang and Tioman Islands. We can also hike through lush green jungles like the trails in Fraser’s Hill and Cameron Highlands. My favourite food is nasi lemak with spicy prawns and fried anchovies.”

ranging from good old butter cake and zesty orange cake to mouth-watering chocolate cake, cheesecake, red velvet cake and tiramisu.
