Michelin-starred dinner
FOR foodies of every stripe, Michelin-starred meals and the superstar chefs who make them are often representatives of culinary ideals and goals.
But for most Malaysians, these meals are usually out of reach, as travel is a pre-requisite to make these lofty dreams come true, given that the country currently does not have the Michelin Guide.
But what if you could savour a meal that combines the talents of not one, but two Michelin-starred chefs right here on home ground?
That is exactly what Ember Beach Club at the One & Only Desaru Coast resort in Johor is serving up this month as part of its inaugural Ember Curates: Andrew & Friends series.
The dinner on Sept 24 will feature Andrew Walsh, who leads the culinary concept at Ember (with his distinctive take on the art of barbecue) and is also the owner of Michelin-starred eatery Cure in Singapore; alongside Julien Royer of three-michelin starred restaurant Odette, also in Singapore.
Royer has long been regarded as a culinary wunderkind of sorts, with Odette consistently named one of the best restaurants in the world (it is now ranked No.8 on the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022 list).
The 10-course dinner will merge Walsh’s signature “nua Irish” cuisine with Royer’s sophisticated French cuisine in a menu inspired by their homelands, experiences and travels.
From Royer, you can expect to dine on hand-dived scallops and yuzu tart as well as his Claudine bouillabaisse, which is his take on the hearty Provencal fish stew.
Walsh meanwhile will dish up the freshest seafood and meat from his home country of Ireland, including freshly harvested Gallagher oysters. Butter poached lobster is also on the menu, as is a wagyu beef Rossini with foie gras and truffle.
The Ember Curates series will be a recurring feature at the restaurant and will continue to see Walsh paired with inventive, topnotch chefs from around the world, so expect more nirvanic culinary match-making in the future! –
