Malaysian model sofia Goh certainly means business when it comes to her chic fashion choices.
There is something business like about Malaysian model Sofia Goh. Perhaps it is her confident demeanour, or maybe it is her perfectly put-together outfits.
She says she loves fashion, but remains practical with her choices. This is so that she can navigate her day-to-day work with stylish ease.
Goh, who has also dabbled in acting in the past, is now focused on being a start-up entrepreneur.
To date she has been involved in five start-ups in industrial design – in-bound medical tourism, artificial intelligence, 5G solutions with PETRONAS Futuretech’s first batch and the latest, a restaurant reservation app called RSRVIT.
She even founded a charity project called “The heart Gold”, which aimed to provide food aid.
Goh prefers to not reveal her age, but calls herself a millenial. According to her, she has been modelling since her student years.
How would you describe your personal style? Are you more of a casual chic kind of person, or do you prefer all-out glamour?
My personal style is classic and timeless. Most occasions, I opt for a sartorial elegance like a pantsuit with feminine accents such as a frill collar or lace detailings. It is really for practical reasons, so I’m able to dash from my meetings to fashion events effortlessly. During my down time, I prefer to be in athleisure. Any extra time I have left for leisure, I try to invest into my health with activities such as going to the gym for a workout.
How large a role does fashion play in your life?
I appreciate fashion like I do art and design. I love being inspired by haute couture as it’s when the fashion designer truly expresses their design ethos for the brand and the season as well as show off their high technical skill with materials. I am certainly fashion obsessed but I am conscious of the fashion and try to keep abreast with the latest fashion trends.
Most women are said to be either a bag or a shoe person. Which one are you?
Both, as I feel they are essential parts of my fashion profile. however, to me they both should blend nicely with not only each other but my overall look.
What’s your view on the Malaysian fashion scene? How do you see it differ from other countries? What do you think is its strength?
Our strength is that South-east Asia is under represented in the world stage of fashion (Milan,
Paris, London, hong Kong). Anything authentic from Malaysia is exotic in the international stage. This should be further emphasised and pushed more vigorously internationally.
Who’s some of your favourite Malaysian designers?
Datuk Farah Khan and Datuk Jimmy Choo. Datuk Farah Khan’s pieces are very intricate and every piece makes a statement. Datuk Jimmy Choo’s brand is world renowned and every accessory, especially in his personal custom designs, has a special appeal.
