When art makes ripples
Juhari Said: riak-riak: ripples and Shadows
Venue: G13 Gallery, Petaling Jaya Date: opens Oct 1
In Petaling Jaya, G13 Gallery is set to grab this weekend’s art headlines with its Riak-riak: Ripples And Shadows, a solo exhibition by established artist Juhari Said.
He is also one of Malaysia’s most prominent printmakers, a medium that found a new audience during the pandemic.
Juhari returns with an urgent and rather dark theme in this show that reflects on climate change crisis.
This exhibition aims to showcase nature’s immense beauty and also highlight the “code red for humankind” situation if climate action is not taken seriously.
Riak-riak (in Bahasa Malaysia) is a movement and a flow that can be gentle, or more menacingly, build momentum and create ripples of destruction in its path.
In this show, Juhari has put different mediums and dimensions together – negative woodcuts and positive prints – as one work.
Riak-riak runs from Oct 1-15. Free admission.
