UEM Edgenta eyes cost reduction via tie-up with Microsoft Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: UEM Edgenta Bhd, the fourth core division of UEM Group Bhd, aims to drive efficiency and reduce the cost of doing business via its tie-up with Microsoft Malaysia.

Following an agreement between UEM Group and Microsoft, UEM Edgenta managing director and chief executive officer Azmir Merican said the group has been looking for ways to reduce costs.

“We are using this (collaboration Microsoft) to drive efficiency.

“We are always looking for ways to drive with costs down,” he said at a press conference yesterday.

Azmir said the UEM Group had successfully managed to drive cost down at Menara UEM in Bangsar South City, adding that the group hopes to replicate this with future projects.

“We drove cost down by 18% to 20% at one of our buildings and that is significant.

“If we can continue to do that, it would help us in terms of reaching out to new clients, driving cost down for present clients and gives us a competitive advantage in how we bid for projects.

“It will also allow us to use the same solutions in other industries that we’re in. That’s how we’re looking at it - driving efficiency and cost down in our business.”

UEM Group Bhd yesterday inked a deal with Microsoft Malaysia to drive cloud-based digital initiatives.

The three-year agreement will see UEM Group and its subsidiaries work with Microsoft to drive digital initiatives based on cutting edge technologies, such as Internet of Things (IoT), predictive data analytics, machine learning and augmented reality.

The move is part of UEM Group’s RM150mil, three-year integrated Enterprise Resource Planning Cloud solution that the company announced in October last year, UEM Group group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Izzaddin Idris said.

“As buildings, highways, factories and entire cities become ‘smarter’ with ubiquitous computing and ambient intelligent environments, digital solutions are key,” he said during the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two parties yesterday.

Izzaddin added that the collection of data for analytics and the use of cloud-based machine learning for prediction and anomaly detection would provide UEM Group with operational insights to improve the company’s service delivery and help modernise its solutions.
