The SOBA Learning Series workshops for entrepreneurs kick off in Penang on July 6

-

IN CONJUNCTION with The Star Outstanding Business Awards (SOBA) 2017, Star Media Group will be organising a new round of SOBA Learning Series throughout July to equip SMEs with the right knowledge to better manage their operations, finance, talent and retention of market share to stay ahead in what is expected to be another challenging year.

The workshops will be held in four states, namely, Penang, Perak, Johor and Selangor.

The first Learning Series workshop will kick off in Penang on July 6 at The Star Pitt Street, George Town, from 9am to 1pm.

The workshop will feature industry leaders from Digi, AmBank Group, Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF), Credit Guarantee Corporation (CGC) and Matrade who will share insights on pressing issues such as managing talents in SMEs, financial solutions in a changing business landscape, effective and efficient ways to digitalise SME businesses, potential pitfalls and derailments in the SME industry as well as platforms to expand businesses abroad.

Additionally, Acestar Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Natalie Sit will be sharing her experiences as an entrepreneur and a leader of an organisation. Sit notes that being a business owner does not automatically make one a leader of the company.

“It’s really not just about your business but about the team as well,” she says.

Acestar took home the Most Promising award at SOBA 2015 and went on to win the Silver award for Best Employer in the “Up to RM25mil” revenue category at SOBA 2016. Sit also won Female Entrepreneur of the Year award in the “Up to RM25mil” category at SOBA 2016.

The second Learning Series worshop will take place in Ipoh on July 18 at the Star Ipoh Bureau.

In addition to talks by industry leaders, the Ipoh workshop will feature ExcelVite Sdn Bhd chief executive officer WH Leong who will touch on the company’s success in bringing its locally produced palm phytonu- trients to the global market.

ExcelVite was the SOBA 2016 winner in the Rising Star category.

The workshops in Johor and Selangor will be held on July 20 and July 27 respectively.

Entry for the SOBA Learning Series is free of charge but seats are limited. Interested participants are encouraged to register at www.soba.com.my to secure a seat on a first-come-first-served basis.
