GELANG PATAH: Private American boarding school Shattuck-St Mary’s, located within the Forest City development, will open its doors to students starting August next year.

Forest City master developer and operator Country Garden Pacificview Sdn Bhd (CGPV) is investing RM935mil to build the institution in three phases. It will offer pre-school to high school syllabi, according to the American curriculum.

CGPV executive director Datuk Md Othman Yusof said the school’s first phase is set for completion by August next year and about 160 students are expected to enrol then.

“The first phase will see its construction spanning 622,466 sq ft within 9.8ha we have set aside to develop our education hub,” he said after the school’s ground-breaking ceremony here on Tuesday.

He said the school is the first one to come on board Forest City’s education hub development and the developer is currently in talks to bring more schools into the area.

The first phase of the project covers a teaching building and a performing and visual arts centre, he said.

Upon full completion, the school would also be equipped with a sports complex, canteen and boarding facilities, he said, adding that the institution would be able to accommodate up to 3,200 students.

Johor Health, Environment, Education and Information Committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat who attended the ceremony, said that major property developers have become a driving force behind new international schools opening in the country.

“Because of this, international school brands are making their mark here significantly and it is great to have such serious players like Shattuck-St. Mary’s choose Johor as its base,” he said.

Shattuck-St. Mary’s was established in 1858 in the

United States.
