Empire City gets green light to open skating rink

PETALING JAYA: The Mammoth Empire group has unofficially opened one of the six zones in its Empire City development housing an Olympic-sized skating rink to host the 29th SEA Games.

The group has received the green light from the fire and police departments, a company official said in an email.

The official said “safety and security remain a top priority for the management of Empire City.

“To ensure all precautionary security and safety measures are being met, we are working closely with relevant authorities to ensure the premise remains safe and conducive for the public.

“They have given Empire City approval to open for the SEA Games,” she said, adding that the team has worked around the clock to get the place ready.

A large part of the 28-acre mixed integrated development remains a construction site although vacant possession were given to buyers of its serviced apartments last year.

The project, with six planned retail zones, will be opened in phases.

She said 14 food and beverage (F&B) tenants will be open for business during the entire duration of the SEA Games beginning tommorrow.

The outlets would continue operations after the SEA Games and would be supported by full marketing events every weekend from September 2017 onwards, she pointed out.

Meanwhile, Mammoth Empire Holdings Sdn Bhd group executive director Datuk Danny J.Y. Cheah said the current population of office workers together with 2,000 more office workers coming in by year end will be “enough to sustain” the F&B outlets that have opened.

“All in all we’ll have 4,000 working population plus residents that live in the four blocks, which will total about 6,000,” he said in a phone message to StarBiz.
