JOHOR BARU: Securities Commission Malaysia’s training arm, Securities Industry Development Corp (SIDC), will work with universities and higher institutions of education to inculcate good corporate governance practices among the younger population.

SIDC Director of Professional Development Prof Salleh Hassan ( pic) said the corporation would work on introducing corporate governance modules for these institutions.

“We will discuss with the universities, find out what their existing corporate governance practices are and look into how we can incorporate the modules we have.

“This includes the possibility of developing an elective subject for students from various fields of study and not just for those pursuing business studies,” Salleh told a press confer- ence here yesterday.

The SC is currently on its last leg of its road show, nationwide, to brief industries on the new Malaysian Code on Corporate Governance (MCCG), the latest revision of which was released on April 26.

Salleh said the collaboration with the universities was expected to take off in three years.

The latest revision of the MCCG contained an introduction to the “Step Up” practices to encourage companies to go further in achieving corporate excellence, as well as the Comprehend, Apply, and Report approach to encourage listed companies to put more thought and consideration when adopting and reporting their corporate governance practices.
