Petronas Dagangan in joint venture to install EV charging stations

-

PETALING JAYA: Petronas Dagangan Bhd, the retail arm of Petroliam Nasional Bhd, has increased its commitment to a more energy-efficient future with a proposal to install 100 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations as well as the setting up of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels at 100 selected stations.

Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) said in a stock exchange announcement that a partnership has been signed between it, Petronas Dagangan and Green Technology Corp (GreenTech) as an extension of an MoU signed last year between Petronas Dagangan and GreenTech to instal 66 EV charging (ChargEV) stations, of which 55 have been installed nationwide.

TNB said the partnership was part of the initiative to reduce the country’s overall emissions while supporting “green economy” initiatives.

“Through this tripartite partnership, Petronas Dagangan commits to install 100 ChargEV stations by 2018 and will explore strategic partnerships to increase the number of ChargEV stations gradually, in tandem with market demand.

“Petronas Dagangan will also look into installing solar PV panels at 100 selected stations. With this, the energy used to power the ChargEV stations will be fully renewable and completely carbon-free, making it truly green,” it said.

In addition to the EV charging facilities and solar PV panels, GreenTech and TNB will help transform the selected 100 stations into the energy efficient station concept. This will include energy efficient lightings and air-conditioners as well as integrating an energy management system in each of these stations.

Malaysia has a target to reduce greenhouse gas emission intensity by 45% by 2030 as pledged at the Conference of the Parties.

Petronas Dagangan shares closed 2 sen lower at RM24.28 while TNB shares closed 8 sen lower at RM14.12.
