PKT Logistics Group Sdn Bhd has set a new benchmark for warehouse security with its state-of-theart surveillance system from Ricoh Malaysia installed at its new warehouse in Batu Kawan, Penang.

Its chief executive officer and managing director Datuk Michael Tio says the RM3mil investment in its security system is in line with the Government’s call to position the country as a logistic hub in the region.

“With every new warehouse that PKT builds, we continuously invest effort and resources to improve space optimisation, environmental impact, functionality, safety and security.

“Coupled with attractive themed designs of our warehouses, we provide cutting edge storage solutions to our customers,” Tio said.

He was speaking to reporters after the handover of the surveillance system by Ricoh Asia Pacific managing director Kazuhisa (Kaz) Goto.

Also present at the event were PKT Logistics chairman Datuk Jalilah Baba and director Katsuji Kobayashi as well as Ricoh Malaysia chief operating officer Alice Lee.

The new warehouse, called The 12 Waves, is the largest single-storey warehouse in the country with 650,000sq ft of storage space.

The 12 Waves is PKT Logistics Group’s fourth addition to its line of iconic warehouses including The Waves, The Ship, and The Lighthouse.

“The company notes that security is of utmost importance to retain customers’ confidence. We worked with Ricoh Malaysia to equip the entire site with integrated analytic systems to enhance the overall security of the warehouse,” Tio added.

The 12 Waves will boast a comprehensive suite of security solutions that includes hardware and services. The entire setup was specifically designed to provide high security to the premises and assets.

PKT Logistics collaborated with Ricoh Malaysia to implement Ricoh’s solution of intelligent network cameras, automatic license plate recognition, access control system, alarm system with 24/7 central monitoring system, visitor management system and LED motion floodlight system, among other solutions, to optimise its operation processes.

Goto said, like PKT, the company shares a similar goal to take businesses to the future with innovative and digital capabilities.

“We applaud PKT’s aim and vision of bringing advancement to the Malaysian logistics industry.

“We look forward to working closely with PKT to empower its needs with the right tools – from innovative surveillance solutions to managed information services,” Goto added.

Completed in May 2017, The 12 Waves offers facilities such as 54 loading bays to serve northern region customers from industries such as automotive and electronics.

The 12 Waves, which costs RM120mil, makes up one of the three main components at PKT’s One Auto Hub in Batu Kawan. The other two are The Ship Campus and The Lighthouse Lodge.

The warehouse also incorporates office suites, a food court, a convenience store, a trucker’s lounge, and a Japanese garden, which will be open to the public.

The 12 Waves has an unconventional wave-shaped design, which not only stands out aesthetically, but incorporates environmental features such as natural lighting, natural ventilation, solar panels and LED lighting.

PKT provides end-to-end design, implementation and operation of logistics solutions in freight forwarding, customs brokering, haulage, contract logistics and distribution management for large and medium-sized national and multinational companies.

Headquartered in Tokyo, Ricoh Group operates in about 200 countries and regions. It is a provider of document management solutions, IT services, commercial and industrial printing, digital cameras, and industrial systems.

In the financial year ended March 2017, Ricoh Group had worldwide sales of 2,028 billion yen or US$18.2bil.
