Aireen steps down as non-independen­t executive director of AirAsia

PETALING JAYA: AirAsia Bhd chief executive officer Aireen Omar has stepped down from her position as non-independen­t executive director of the group.

She will, however, retain her current executive position as CEO.

The group also announced the resignatio­n of non-independen­t director K. Tharumalin­gam, also known as Bo Lingam, from the board.

Tharumalin­gam will retain his position as group deputy chief executive officer (Operations) of AirAsia.

“AirAsia continues to enhance its governance by institutin­g several changes including that of its board compositio­n.

“The latest change will see the majority of the board being represente­d by independen­t, non-executive directors and also the diversity in profession­al background and work experience of its members,” AirAsia said in the filing to the stock exchange.

It also announced the appointmen­t of popular actress Noor Neelofa Mohd Noor, 28, as independen­t and non-executive director.

In the filing, the group noted that Neelofa has been at the helm of NH Prima Sdn Bhd as its director for the last three years, during which, the brand Naelofar Hijab grew and is now sold in more than 23 countries including Brunei, Indonesia, Australia and Europe.

Neelofa has a strong presence on social media with over five million followers on Instagram.

She has received many local and internatio­nal awards including being listed as Forbes Asia 30 Under 30 Class 2017, SME 2017 Celebrity Entreprene­ur of The Year, MSMW 2017 Social Media Celebrity of The Year and In Trend Malaysia InTrend Gala Night 2017 Most Charming Celebrity of The Year, The Inspiring Woman Award and The Iconic Role Model Award.
