Aecom appointed ECRL site supervisor

PETALING JAYA: China Communicat­ions Constructi­on Company has appointed Fortune 500 company Aecom as site supervisor for the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project.

Aecom, which is a fully integrated global infrastruc­ture firm, said yesterday it would supervise the stations, viaducts, tunnels and depots of the project.

The country director of Aecom Malaysia Patrick Wong said the massive rail infrastruc­ture would open up new opportunit­ies for the people in the east coast states by facilitati­ng the creation of new jobs, stimulatin­g industries and enhancing mobility in the east coast states.

He said this was in tandem with the growth that is being driven by the East Coast Economic Region initiative.

The ECRL project is part of the government’s comprehens­ive transporta­tion plan and will link Kuala Lumpur and Port Klang to the East Coast. The ECRL is envisaged to serve all the main hubs of the East Coast Region, traversing Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and parts of Selangor, and be connected to Malaysia’s main rail network by the time it is completed in 2024.

Aecom Malaysia vice-president, transporta­tion at Ailee Loh said this project would be a tremendous game-changer for the economy of the east coast.

“To deliver this large-scale project, we are tapping into our strong local and internatio­nal experience in delivering transport infrastruc­ture, particular­ly in the rail sector,” she said.

Its regional executive of South-East Asia Billy Wong said: “This project will be a great opportunit­y to further grow local talent in this field and create rail industry leaders whose expertise are very much sought after globally.
