Fitters inks deal to supply pipes to Felda Water
KUALA LUMPUR: Fitters Diversified Bhd, a fire safety equipment manufacturer, has signed an MoU with Felda Water Sdn Bhd to supply the company’s brand of Hypro PVC-O pipes for the latter’s RM57.9mil project in Pahang.
Fitters subsidiary Molecor (SEA) Sdn Bhd, will be supplying the pipes.
Fitters said the MoU would enable the company to jointly explore and co-operate in the application and use of the pipes in water and wastewater projects in Malaysia and the region.
The Pahang project was awarded by the Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry and entailed the installation and commissioning of 80km of main and distribution pipelines to supply treated water to 14 orang asli villages throughout five districts in the state.
It added that Molecor SEA’s appointment was expected to contribute positively to the company’s performance for financial year ending Dec 31, 2018.
Fitters managing director Datuk Richard Wong pointed out that Molecor SEA has made strong inroads in Malaysia since its introduction four years ago.
“This strategic MoU with Felda Water grants us further traction to support their roll-out of water and wastewater infrastructure projects nationwide,” he said.
These pipes have been installed in projects including in Sarawak, Sabah, Kedah, Terengganu, Pahang, Kelantan and Johor.
Wong said these would be the catalysts for its pipes to used by industry players as a viable alternative for facilitating large volume water infrastructure, in line with the rapid economic development.
Felda Water chief executive officer Devan Iyavoo said the collaboration with Molecor SEA was timely, as the government encouraged industry players to explore better technology and materials in water and wastewater projects to optimise costs, shorten construction time and enhance the efficiency and durability of the water system.
The pipes have higher impact resistance and longer lifespan of up to 50 years, compared to the 30-year lifespan of conventional steel-based pipes. The pipes are also resistant to corrosion and natural chemical substances, providing superior structural strength and are much lighter than conventional pipes resulting in cost savings in handling as well as easier and speedier installation.
The pipes were manufactured in a RM120mil plant in Gebeng Pahang, under the East Coast Economic Region initiative.
Felda Water, a joint venture company under Felda Investment Corp Sdn Bhd, have core businesses that encompass infrastructure works in water treatment; drainage and sewage; organic waste treatment and industrial wastage. It also develops underground water and drainage systems.
