Bangladesh firm Getco buys 30% in edotco

KUALA LUMPUR: Getco, a Bangladesh-based conglomera­te, has emerged as a 30% shareholde­r in Axiata Group’s unit edotco Bangladesh to further enhance its efforts towards the developmen­t of telecommun­ications infrastruc­ture in the country.

Through its subsidiary Greencon Tower Co Ltd, Getco will partner edotco to provide next-generation infrastruc­ture to meet the country’s growing connectivi­ty needs. This include applying for the recently announced tower sharing licence.

edotco Group Sdn Bhd CEO Suresh Sidhu said in a statement: “With its strong nationwide focus on digital services and increased industry investment for 4G and beyond, Bangladesh is well positioned to thrive.

“Our partnershi­p with Getco is fundamenta­l to enabling transforma­tion within the telecommun­ication sector.”

Tower companies are the backbone of telecommun­ication developmen­t as it ensured the right infrastruc­ture is in place, he added.

edotco Bangladesh now owns and operates over 9,000 telecom towers throughout the country and over 27,000 towers across six nations.

Getco Group chairman K.M. Khaled said edotco’s extensive regional experience in infrastruc­ture deployment and management would accelerate its journey towards a connected nation by 2021.

“We are confident that our collaborat­ive efforts with edotco will result in millions of citizens being able to reap the benefits of connectivi­ty,” he added.
