“We are eyeing for more such projects as many more dilapidated schools in Sarawak needed to be rebuilt or upgraded,” added Hamid.

Former Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof was reported to have said earlier this year that the Finance Ministry had approved RM1bil to fund the reconstruction of 400 dilapidated schools using the IBS products in Sarawak.

Half of the allocation is expected to be utilised this year and the balance in 2019.

Hamid said SCIB was also eyeing for the supply of IBS components to five new primary and secondary schools which had been planned in the state.

It is a supplier to the on-going Sungai Tapang School’s extension project here.

SCIB group has a current outstanding order book of about RM60mil, about 50% of which is from the Pan Borneo Highway project.

“Orders are still coming in for our precast concrete products from Pan Borneo Highway (contractors),” said Hamid.

The company has been supplying products such as pipe culverts and square piles for the highway project, which has reached an overall completion rate of about 20% on the Sarawak side.

SCIB also supplies precast concrete foundation pile and beams which may be used for the construction of some 114 new bridges across rivers under the 11 work packages of the highway project.

In preparing itself for an expected increase in demand for precast concrete products from the roll-out of the Pan Borneo Highway project, SCIB had recently invested RM4.8mil in a new plant to expand the annual production capacity of concrete pipe and beams by 47,800 tonnes and an upgrading of the existing factory.

Hamid said the company looked forward to participate in the Sarawak coastal road project, set to be worth several billion ringgit.
