Petron: We went through extensive process
PETALING JAYA: Petron Malaysia Refining & Marketing Bhd has clarified that it has gone through proper accreditation to be awarded as one of the fuel suppliers for government vehicles.
In a statement yesterday, Petron said that it had gone through an extensive process, where it had put in its first application in March 2015 to become one of the fuel suppliers to the government.
“Like other oil companies and suppliers, we went through proper accreditation and followed all due diligence processes required by the Ministry of Finance (MoF),” Petron said.
Petron was appointed as one of the fuel suppliers for government vehicles on Aug 3.
However, the award had stirred criticism, stemming from the connection of Petron to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s son, Mirzan Mahathir, who is a director in Petron Corp.
Petron said that its first application to be a government vendor started in March 2015, and received approval from the MoF in November the same year as an equipment supplier.
In October 2016, the company said it reapplied specifically to be one of the fuel suppliers for government vehicles.
“After an extensive process, we were only accredited as one of the fuel suppliers in August 2018,” it said. Last weekend, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said Petron was only appointed as a fuel provider to government vehicles this year, after two years of discussions.
