Top three banks to host investors conference in KL
PETALING JAYA: The country’s top-three banks have teamed up to host an investors conference on new Malaysia’s economic, social and political resiliency and sustainability on Oct 9 in Kuala Lumpur.
The three banking groups include Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank), CIMB Group Holdings Bhd and RHB Banking Group.
In a joint statement issued yesterday, they said the areas of discussion would include “sustainable infrastructure, affordable housing, agri-commodities and Malaysians’ socio-economic well-being.”
Feeling privileged to co-host the conference, CIMB Bank group chief executive officer Tengku Zafrul Aziz said the discussion would play a key role for the government to convey its medium to long-term aspirations to the industry stakeholders.
“As a regional banking group headquartered in Malaysia, we are confident that institutional reforms and policies premised on consensus, transparency and integrity will make Malaysia grow stronger and more sustainably,” he added.
The conference known as “Malaysia: The New Dawn” would have Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad delivering the keynote address.
Among the speakers slated to speak include Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng; Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo; International Trade and Industry Minister Darell Leiking; Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Minister Yeo Bee Yin; Governor of Bank Negara Datuk Nor Shamsiah Mohd Yunus; Khazanah Nasional Bhd managing director Datuk Shahril Ridza Ridzuan and President of Parti Keadilan Rakyat Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
With the new government in power, RHB group managing director Datuk Khairussaleh Ramli said the upcoming conference would be an “excellent” platform for investors and industry players to note the policy direction of the country.
While, Maybank president and chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Farid Alias believes that “with the change comes opportunity”, saying that the banking group is committed to ensuring that Malaysia’s success story continues in the years to come.
