Prasarana to update on LRT3 soon

KUALA LUMPUR: Prasarana Malaysia Bhd is expected to make an announcement about the light rail transit 3 (LRT3) project soon.

Group chief operating officer (strategy and transformation) Ang Yoke Kee remained tight-lipped about the details, but said that “it is all good news”.

He only confirmed that a new contract had been signed and that outstanding payments to LRT3 contractors have been settled.

Sources had previously said that the group owed contractors about RM1.1bil – up to RM800mil of certified payments and RM300mil of uncertified payment claims.

“We’ll have a separate media session together with the right parties, maybe even with the other authorities to talk about it.

“We’ll be happy to update. There will be something coming up for LRT3,” he told reporters here yesterday.

Ang was with Prasarana group president and CEO Datuk Mohamed Hazlan Mohamed Hussain and other senior officers earlier to greet LRT passengers with a lion dance troupe.

The company also feted 30 less fortunate children to a hotel buffet.

Work on LRT3 slowed down in October last year, pending the signing of a new contract following a review of the project by the Pakatan Harapan government.

Last July, the government approved the continuation of the 37km track at a final cost that had been reduced by 47% to RM16.63bil. The government said it would do away with the project delivery partner model and revert to the turnkey model, while the completion date was extended from 2020 to 2024.

Besides the joint venture of Malaysian Resources Corp Bhd and George Kent (M) Bhd as the main contractor, other listed companies that are involved in the project include Mudajaya Group Bhd, WCT Holdings Bhd, IJM Corp Bhd and Sunway Construction Group Bhd.
