PETALING JAYA: Khairul Kamarudin has been appointed as the chief executive officer (CEO) of Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd with effect from Nov 1.
Khairul, who has 22 years of experience in the financial industry, has been the deputy CEO for the last eight months.
He takes over from Datuk Mohd Redza Shah Abdul Wahid who is retiring, the bank said in a statement yesterday.
Khairul has a law degree from the UK’S Anglia Ruskin University. He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Islamic Finance.
During his 22-year career in the banking industry, 14 years were with Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd (BIMB).
He was the CEO of BIMB from July 2017 to August 2018 and the former CEO of BIMB Holdings Bhd (June 2017 to August 2018).
During his tenure with BIMB and prior to his appointment as CEO, he had held the positions of deputy CEO, director of business development, head of consumer banking and head of special recovery.
Khairul’s Islamic banking and finance industry experience includes being director of BIMB Investment Bhd, board member of IAP (investment account platform), board member of the Islamic Banking and Finance Institute Malaysia, and board member of Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan.
Before joining BIMB, he was with Pengurusan Danaharta Nasional Bhd for five years.
Khairul started his career as an audit senior with Pricewaterhousecoopers Malaysia (assurance and business advisory services, banking and financial services group).
Bank Muamalat chairman Tan Sri Dr Munir Majid said Khairul has very good Islamic banking credentials and the bank was looking forward to his steering the institution in the next phase of its development in an increasingly challenging environment.
“I would also like to express our gratitude to Redza, who served the bank with distinction for the past 11 years, from trying times to establishing a strong foundation for its future progress,” Munir said.
