Digital transformation from a holistic perspective

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Digital transformation is frequently misconstrued in the eyes of some business leaders in the country in a bid to hoard complex technologies to be more advanced without solving operational issues that are hampering an organisation from achieving its goals.

By going digital, IDC Asean managing director Sudev Bangah said companies tend to purchase complex technologies to be more advanced without considering the business goal of the organisation.

“For the business leaders, digital transformation has always been approached from a technology perspective.

“They should look at it from a holistic perspective from how the technology deployed as a whole will impact the organisation.

“Most organisations are not business-led. They go towards tech-driven implementation without considering their business goals,” he explained.

Besides that, Sudev also said most Malaysian companies view digital transformation from a financial perspective with regard to the cost of the technology.

He added that setting aside the financial objectives, it is crucial for companies to deploy technological solutions to help improve its internal processes which would result in reaping benefits from the digital transformation journey of the organisation.

Meanwhile, Sudev noted that the digital transformation of the company is an ongoing continuous journey that “never stops”.

Before companies invest in complex technologies, he suggested that C-level executives should research on making the company efficient by automating, saving costs and interacting with its customers.

Moving forward, Sudev said digital initiatives adopted by companies in the country are likely to be accelerated in 2020 given the Covid-19 pandemic.

“With the pandemic, digitally transforming the company holistically would help business continuity in the wake of the crisis.

“More than ever, companies have to rethink on how they approach the market, how they attract customers and the entire structure of how they sell in the market due to the Covid-19 pandemic,” he added.

As such, cxo2020 live virtual conference will be taking place on Aug 4 to 7 from 10.15am-12.15pm, organised by Star Media Group, Malaysian Investment Development Authority as strategic investment partner, Tata Consultancy Services as gigabyte partner, while IDC, Kantar and PWC are knowledge partners.
