George Kent completes second hospital for this year

-

PETALING JAYA: George Kent (M) Bhd has completed the construction of Hospital Tanjong Karang, Selangor, marking the completion of its second hospital for this year.

The company said in a statement that on Oct 31 2016, it had received the letter of award from the Public Works Department to design and build the hospital for Rm277.2mil.

The hospital is equipped with 10 specialty services, including general surgery, emergency services, paediatric, obstetrics and gynaecology.

It also has two operating theatres, an ICU ward with four beds, and one CT scan machine, the company said.

A handover ceremony of the 150 bed minor specialist hospital was held last week which was witnessed by the Health Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin.

Also present at the ceremony was the Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister and Tanjong Karang member of parliament Tan Sri Noh Omar.

The completion of Hospital Tanjong Karang is the fourth hospital project that George Kent has built on a turnkey basis for the Ministry of Health.

In April 2022, George Kent completed the construction and handed over the 220-bed Institut Endokrin, Hospital Putrajaya.

That project was awarded to George Kent in December 2016 for a contract sum of RM344.2 mil. The company previously completed the first and second phases of Kuala Lipis Hospital.

Chairman Tan Sri Tan Kay Hock noted that the completion of two hospitals in 2022 was an achievement for the company despite the headwinds faced by the construction industry stemming from the Covid-19 pandemic and the overall economic downturn.

“We wish to thank the Ministry of Health and the Public Works Department for their confidence in us.

“In spite of the challenges and restrictions brought upon by the Covid-19 pandemic through various lockdowns and SOPS which limited the worker count on-site, we have successfully delivered two hospitals in a timely manner.

“This is a testament of our strength in the construction industry through careful project management as well as our healthy net cash position which ensured the continuation of our projects,” he said.
