By SARBAN SINGH NILAI: The Prime Minister wants research bodies and institutions of higher education to collaborate with businesses and the Government to expand research and development in the field of green energy.

Datuk Seri Najib Razak said they should also work collectively to commercialise their findings.

“I believe we need to move even more quickly on this issue and support from key industry players will be of paramount importance,” he said in his speech read by Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan at the launch of Cypark Resources Bhd Solar Park in Pajam near here.

The solar park project, which was part of an integrated renewable energy park, is the first Entry Point Project to be completed under the Economic Transformation Programme.

Najib said the Government was embracing green technology not only to conserve and preserve its resources but to ensure this could act as a new economic impetus for the country.

“By practising energy efficiency in our daily lives, we can work together to preserve the environment and energise the Malaysian economy towards becoming a developed nation by 2020,” he said.

Meanwhile, the number of followers of Najib in Twitter and Facebook has reached almost 500,000 and one million respectively.

“Iamtouchedto see about 500,000 Twitter followers while Facebook has about one million. Thank you.”

He also sought the views of the people to celebrate his followers.

“Maybe you have suggestions on how to celebrate upon reaching the 500,000 and one million followers.”
