14 get appointmen­t letters

KUALA LUMPUR: The Yang di-pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah presented appointmen­t letters to 14 members of the Malaysian Anti-corruption Commission’s (MACC) advisory board at Istana Negara yesterday.

Former solicitor-general Puan Sri Zaitun Zawiyah Puteh, who is also MACC advisory board chairman, heads the list of recipients.

Also on the list are former Sarawak state secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr Hamid Bugo, former Internatio­nal Islamic University Malaysia rector Tan Sri Prof Dr Mohd Kamal Hassan, News Straits Times Press chairman Tan Sri Mohamed Jawhar Hassan, Malaysian Institute of Corporate Governance president Tan Sri Megat Najmuddin Megat Khas, and former Human Rights Commission vice-chairman Tan Sri Simon Sipaun.

Others included Royal Selangor Internatio­nal Sdn Bhd managing director Tan Sri Datuk Yong Poh Kon, former Public Service Department director-general Tan Sri Ismail Adam, Knight Capital Sdn Bhd deputy chairman Tan Sri Rashpal Singh, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Distinguis­hed Professor Prof Ulung Datuk Dr Shamsul Amri Baharuddin, former Universiti Sains Malaysia professor Datuk Anwar Fazal, Oriental Hearts and Mind Study Institute executive director Datuk Dr Michael Yeoh Oon Kheng, Voices of Peace, Conscience and Reason president and writer Datin Halimah Mohd Said and former Malaysian Bar Council president and senior advocate and solicitor Chelvaraja­h Ramasamy Reddiar.

The advisory board was set up to advise the government on actions and procedures to fight corruption in Malaysia, as provided under Section 13 of the Malaysian Anti-corruption Commission Act 2009. —Bernama
