Nurturing talent at HELP CAT

-

HELP College of Arts and Technology (HELP CAT) offers two diplomas aimed at nurturing Information Technology (IT) talents to fill the many job vacancies in Malaysia.

The diplomas offered are Diploma in Computer Science and Diploma in Business Information Systems. Students are trained in web programming languages, databases, graphics, videos, audio editing and even animation software benchmarked at industry standards.

Known as the city college in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, HELP CAT is located at Fraser Business Park, Sungai Besi.

Students can reap the benefits of living and learning in a thriving metropolis with access to sophisticated facilities, infrastructure and a vibrant commercial hub where convenience is just around the corner.

A graduate of the two-year HELP CAT diploma programme can immediately start working, or choose to continue with HELP’S degree programme and graduate within another two years.

Thus, a HELP degree in IT such as the Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons) and Bachelor of Computer Science (Hons) Gaming & Interactive Media can be completed in four years.

However, a second option is available for graduates of the diploma programme.

They can choose to transfer to the University of South Australia where a degree can be obtained by completing another year and a semester. In total, a degree can be obtained within three and a-half years.

Students of the diploma programmes are exposed to leadership and management skills such as facilitating animation workshops for secondary school students.

This provides them with the opportunity to develop confidence in their abilities while honing their presentation skills.

HELP CAT Centre of Information Technology Programmes head John Rajkumar David explained that the real value of the HELP diploma programme lies in inculcating the skills to embrace new technology quickly and effectively.

“We have all heard the saying ‘The only thing constant is change’. In the computer Industry, this is not just a cliché, it is an absolute truth,” said John.

The diploma programmes have been successfully run by HELP for the past 10 years.

Recently in 2010, Professor Anne Laurent from Universite Monpelliar in France, who is the official External Examiner for the diploma programme, spent 40 hours reviewing every facet of the programme at HELP CAT.

“The students are happy with the outcome of the programme. They do not have any concerns about their future careers when they apply for the Bachelor or Masters degrees.” Prof Anne explained.

“In summary, the Diploma in Computer Science has a very good curriculum, with well-designed subjects, and is supported by good facilities.”

In the current booming IT industry, there has been a rising demand for Information Technology (IT) related professions in the Malaysian workforce.

Industries are reaching out to expand their businesses through the fast-paced trend of technology and personalities such as Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook and Jack Dorsey, the founder of Twitter, who have achieved great success at such an early age thanks to this.

HELP CAT IT graduates of both the diploma and degree programmes are well positioned to cater to this demand with their knowledge and experience gained during the period of study. The next intake is scheduled for April.
