Students shine at Sasaran International Arts Festival

-

OVER the years, The One Academy’s Masters Train Masters coaching philosophy has trained students to achieve excellence not just in the classroom, but also in the arena of creativity among aspiring designers. They have received accolades such as winning the recent creative challenge at the Sasaran International Arts Festival.

In line with the national objective to promote homegrown creativity among talented film-makers in Malaysia, Sasaran Art Association has organised a short film competition throughout the month of Sasaran International Arts Festival to encourage the creation of short films that will be outstanding in the national competition and raise social awareness.

Short film is defined as a combination of many art genres.

It is also known as ‘experimental art’ where the film-maker visualises a story through images, sounds and words.

The story filmed is mostly related to our daily life and delivers the message of how one might experience different feelings and thoughts in a given scenario.

A group of young multimedia designers from The One Academy participated in the competition and took second place and finalist respectively.

Koh Liang Sheng, Steven Chuah, Chang Xin Zhe with team mate Chin Kuang Wei submitted their final year project short film Break-up Deliverer and received a RM1,500 cash prize for their winning effort while Occasions with team mates Redmond Ho and Low Ooi Teik secured a finalist spot and was awarded ‘Excellent Film Award’ title.

Break-up Deliverer tells a story about a young man who is assigned a job to deliver break-up messages.

Throughout the process, he realises that sometimes love needs a ‘break’ to see how much one partner cares for another.

The underlying message of the film is that love sometimes may fade, but it must have a reason for it to enter your life.

So don’t give up easily in relationships. With effort and will, you may have a second chance to change your love for the better.

The film was completed in four months, and throughout the making of the film, the team learned about other competitors’ work as well as understanding different shooting styles, approach and story that added to their knowledge of filming.

As for the short film Occasions, it took the team about three weeks to complete and was centered on the life of a young man who goes about his monotonous daily life until he meets a girl who makes his life interesting.

The underlying message is simple, suggesting that it is the little things in life that matter and people should appreciate every minute of their lives.

For the winning team, studying at The One Academy has opened up a path towards building the foundation of their future career.

Besides the knowledge they gained and the skills training, they have been provided with the opportunity to meet with other creative industry people, exchange opinions and come up with new ideas that enhance their work.

Armed with passion and practical knowledge, the industry-driven creative education received by the students at The One Academy will no doubt allow them to excel in their field.
