The allrounder civil engineers

-

Civil engineering has contributed immensely to the development of human civilisation throughout the centuries.

Many remnants of infrastructures from ancient civilisations are still standing today, such as the bridges used to cross rivers and gorges as well as irrigation systems for agriculture.

Developments in the fields of engineering over the last 250 years have created greater demand for various types of infrastructure.

More housing, water treatment plants and public buildings are being built to accommodate the increasing population. Manufacturing facilities and advanced highways become necessary to create a safer, and healthier environmentfor the greater welfare, comfort and efficiency in daily activities.

Civil engineering has effectively shown to be the broadest field of study of all the engineering disciplines.

This is in fact the experience of Malaya then and now Malaysia. The past 50 years in Malaysia’s history were crucial for development, especially the development of infrastructures and its provisions to the rural areas of the nation.

The development of a nation is to improve and maintain existing infrastructures while carrying out various plans by successive governments. .

Hence, the role of civil engineering and its practitioners, such as civil engineers, continue to be pivotal for as long as people demand a better and happier life.

Kuala Lumpur Infrastructure University College (KLIUC), aims to produce successful and allrounder civil engineers.

The civil engineering diploma and degree programmes are designed to produce students who are equipped with a wide range of technical skills, professional capabilities and knowledge that meet the expectation of civil engineering industries.

The syllabus of the programme will be constantly reviewed and updated according to the market demand.

The students will be introduced not only to engineering, but also management, finance and communication subjects. The additional knowledge should provide students with a sense of appreciation for the impact of their works from the employers’ and end users’ point of views.

The university college is capable of pushing the frontiers of civil engineering, especially with its rich training ground, facilities and the history of being the former training centre for Public Works Department’s civil engineers.

One of the attractions at KLIUC is the tuition fee waiver scheme.

Students with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of above 3.751 are entitled to a 60% tuition fee waiver or 30% waiver for those with a CGPA between 3.500 - 3.750. Besides that, the diploma graduates from KLIUC can either further their studies at KLIUC or any local institutions or KLIUC’S partner universities in United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.

At present, the key civil engineering courses offered by KLIUC are Diploma in Civil Engineering, Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Hons), Master of Civil Engineering, and Doctor of Philosophy in Civil engineering.

All these programmes have been approved by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), while Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA) has also granted full accreditation to the two undergraduate programmes.

KLIUC’S March Intake is currently open for application. Register to get a RM500 rebate voucher before March 26. Or apply for the KLIUC Scholarship to study at KLIUC.
